ABOUT
I thought some people might like the behind the scenes stuff, especially if they aspire to be in, or make, movies themselves. So, here's my little corner, a kind of blog thing really.
I started this when in pre-production. It's also a rough diary of the journey too.
Casting
Always the hard part. But I now have a great cast of actors. I know a lot of film makers can't get going unless they have a big known star in their film. I think I would always like to pick good actors who so far, have not had the luck to leap up to the mega buck salaries some of the most celebrated actors get. The characters are more convincing and believable this way.
Dressing the set
We're dressing the location as I write. The caravan is a difficult space to work with, so tiny inside. We had to build canopies around it so we can stand out there in all weather to shoot into the 'van from outside.
I hope you enjoy this limited insight into making a low-budget movie.

Money, money, money. It takes loads of it just to get to the point of shooting the first scene. Props and equipment have to be hired or purchased, material for dressing sets, insurance, lights, cameras, clothes, and then the real expense starts: food to feed everyone!
A month's worth of grub for 16 people is probably the biggie.

Logistics. The shooting schedule is a tough one. You have to make the best use of any location and try to bring all the scenes together for each one. This really chops up the linear chronology of the script which then means you really have to get very detailed about continuity. It is so easy to get someone wearing the wrong item in a follow up scene, when the pre-scene was shot weeks before the second one.
We have sound problems due to a noisy road outside, so a lot of shooting has to be done at night when it's quieter.
Night for day is not so bad, but day for night is not on without a big light.
